New paper – barriers to implementation of Clinical Desicion Support Systems for early cancer detection in primary care

A newly published review from the CanDetect programme in the British Journal of General Practice explores why digital decision-support tools designed to help GPs identify possible cancer cases have not been widely adopted. The authors highlight practical barriers such as poor integration with existing systems, concerns about legal responsibility, added workload, and the need for training. They also note that tools used for assessing symptoms face different challenges from those aimed at screening. The study argues that addressing these real-world implementation issues will be crucial if such technologies are to meaningfully support earlier cancer diagnosis in primary care.
