Developing risk prediction models for upper gastro-intestinal cancer: exploring approaches & challenges

In the second CanDetect meeting, the scientific committee, researchers, and a Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement representative discussed the work being conducted in Workstream 1- the development of a risk prediction tool for upper gastrointestinal cancers using electronic health records. At the heart of the discussion was the analysis of this type of data, making sure that we address missing data appropriately and validate more novel statistical analysis methods. We aim to conduct a systematic review of existing risk prediction models for upper gastrointestinal cancers to assess how previous work has addressed these challenges.
