CanDetect Research Featured at Ca-PRI 2026
CanDetect researchers were out in force at the 2026 Cancer in Primary Care Research International (Ca-PRI) Conference, held in Utrecht, the Netherlands, from 6–8 May. The conference brought together leading researchers, clinicians and policymakers from around the world to discuss advances in cancer diagnosis and primary care research.
The CanDetect team contributed a number of presentations focused on improving the early detection of upper gastrointestinal (GI) cancers using routinely collected healthcare data – some presentation highlights included:
- Ben McGuirk explored whether changes in routine blood test results could serve as early indicators of upper GI cancers in primary care, helping to identify patients who may benefit from further investigation before diagnosis.
- Boby Mihaylova examined the relationship between diagnostic intervals, stage at diagnosis and survival in upper GI cancers using data from a large UK health database. The findings contribute to ongoing efforts to better understand how the timing of diagnosis influences patient outcomes.
- Kate Pazukhina investigated how combinations of co-morbidities, medications and symptoms recorded in primary care may act as early markers of upper GI cancers, providing further insight into opportunities for earlier detection.
Alongside sharing new research findings, the conference provided valuable opportunities for collaboration and discussion with international colleagues working to improve cancer outcomes through earlier diagnosis. The strong CanDetect presence at Ca-PRI reflects the programme’s continued commitment to generating evidence that can support earlier cancer detection and improve patient care.
